Gayego entered in Preakness

Gayego, who finished 17th in the Kentucky Derby on May 3, was added to the Preakness field Tuesday. He will be the only one of the 19 horses beaten by Big Brown in the Derby to seek a rematch Saturday at Pimlico Race Course.
Gayego won the Arkansas Derby in his first race on the dirt, yet the colt encountered difficulty from the outset at Churchill Downs in the Derby. Starting from the No. 19 post, he never recovered from a slow start.
If Gayego runs, he would be the only horse in the Preakness who chased Big Brown in the Derby. The addition of Gayego, who is based in Southern California, expands to 13 the prospective field for the middle jewel of the Triple Crown.
The Preakness field is capped at 14 runners. A three-tiered system tied to earnings determines the field if more than 14 enter.
Entries for the 1 3/16-mile Preakness are due Wednesday morning, and posts will be drawn on Wednesday evening during a live telecast (5-6 p.m. Eastern time) on ESPN2. The post draw will be a traditional blind draw, which Pimlico reverted to last year.
