Giant Moon too fast in practice?

Giant Moon, who has the No. 11 post for the Preakness, breezed a half mile this week a little faster than Richard Schosberg had wanted, but the trainer said the time of 47.77 seconds wasn’t a problem.

“It’s not like he worked [five furlongs] in :57,” Schosberg said. ” … It’s basically to open their lungs up and sharpen them up, and I think that’s what we did. He’s super. … He’s very, very sharp right now.”

On Monday night, Giant Moon was officially crowned New York-bred juvenile champion of 2007 at an awards ceremony in Saratoga. Giant Moon won the Count Fleet, finished last in the Gotham run over an extremely sloppy track, and ran fourth in the Wood Memorial, two lengths behind Tale of Ekati, who finished fourth in the Kentucky Derby.
