Sudan a big favorite in Golden Gate Fields Turf
Irish-bred Sudan is the big favorite for Saturday’s Grade 3, $100,000 Golden Gate Fields Turf.
Sudan took the Gran Premio di Milano (Ity-G1) last June and in 2006 was twice third behind Rail Link, subsequent winner of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Fr-G1).
The son of Peintre Celebre is a distance specialist, which should serve him well in the 1 3/8-mile Turf Stakes. Sudan made his U.S. and 5-year-old debut in the Feb. 23 San Luis Obispo Handicap (gr. IIT) at Santa Anita, finishing last. But Sudan improved in his next start, finishing third in the 1 1/2-mile Jim Murray Memorial Handicap (gr. IIIT) at Hollywood May 10.
The 5-year-old is looking for his first win in the United States.
