Tale of Ekati to run in Belmont

Tale of Ekati, who finished fourth in the Kentucky Derby will enter the Belmont Stakes, the third leg of the Triple Crown, on June 7 at Belmont Park in New York.
Jack Werk, a bloodstock agent in California who manages Fipke’s stable, said that trainer Barclay Tagg and Fipke decided that coming back for the Preakness just two weeks after the Derby was asking too much of their horse, especially given Big Brown’s dominating performance.
Werk said that Tagg and Fipke are more comfortable with the Belmont because New York is Tale of Ekati’s home turf and because the horse has won at that track and performs better over longer distances.
The Preakness is the shortest race of the Triple Crown at 1 3/16 miles. The Belmont is the longest at 1 1⁄2 miles.
