Horse Racing at Pimlico

Pimlico Race Course is the second-oldest track in the United States (1870), just behind Saratoga in New York.

Pimlico has been run by many racing icons such as Man o' War, Sir Barton, Citation, Secretariat and Seabiscuit, who defeated Triple Crown winner War Admiral on November 1st, 1937.

Pimlico is also the home of the famous Preakness Stakes. The annual event held on the third Saturday of May is the second leg of the Triple Crown, along with the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes. Other notable races include the Barbaro Stakes, which started to run in 2007 in honor of Barbaro, who suffered a fall in the first hundred yards of the Preakness Stakes and was euthanized following the injury.
